Ammonium perchlorate and aluminum

Potassium perchlorate seems to be cheaper to obtain in smaller quantities than ammonium perchlorate. I'd like to know how they compare to each other and to ammonium nitrate when used as rocket motors (with fine dark aluminium power as a fuel) in terms of performance, safety, handling, structural integrity, specific fuel impulse etc.. Synthesis, Evaluation, and Formulation Studies on New Oxidizers as Alternatives to Ammonium Perchlorate in DoD Missile Propulsion Applications Thiokol propellants. NOTE: These propellants are based on polyethylene sulfide rubbers mixed with ammonium perchlorate.According to the Thiokol Cehmical Corporation, liquid thiokol is produced by condensing ethylene chlorohydrin to dichlorodiethylformal, which is then treated with sodium polysulfide to obtain the finished product. The proportion for liquid thiokol to perchlorate is usually 20 ... Ammonium perchlorate is used to make rocket propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, as an etching and engraving agent, and in analytical chemistry. Notes Incompatible with metals, reducing agents, strong acids.
